Should I Get Contact Lenses?

When trying to decide if contact lenses are right for you there are several factors to consider. Some factors that Optometric Associates of Southern Maine like to consider when determining candidacy for contact lenses include:

  • What type of lifestyle
  • Refractive errors
  • Other eye conditions, like dry eyes
  • Ability to take care of the contact lenses

If you would like to find out the pros and cons of contact lenses, we can help you get a clear picture when we meet with you.

Soft Contact Lens Types:

  • Daily Disposable
  • Conventional Daily Wear Disposable
  • Extended Wear Dsposable

Rigid Gas Permeable Lenses

Rigid gas permeable lenses are hard lenses that are typically made of silicone and acrylate blends. In some cases, these lenses can correct a wide array of refractive errors. Sometimes, rigid gas permeable contacts also treat issues like Keratoconus, which is a degenerative disorder of the cornea that permanently alters its shape. This condition makes clear vision difficult through both glasses and soft contact lenses.

Are Glasses and Contact Lenses Prescriptions the Same?

To receive a prescription for contact lenses you will require a contact lens examination, which can be included in a comprehensive examination but is a separate service altogether. Additional fees also apply.
